From gleeful Perkins to velvety Catton - the joys of the Tea Cosy Challenge

Well, finished Novel about my Wife by Emily Perkins. And oh what a joy -a novel that is gleefully dark, deliciously tense, packed with incisive personal and social observations and laugh out loud funny. Sad, too. Powerful. Crafted. Bloody amazing.

And now - as I pursue my own Tea Cosy Fiction Challenge - I am moving onto Eleanor Catton's The Rehearsal. I am excited. It's like grabbing the baton in a relay and hitting the ground running because there is an added purpose to the reading, a kind of race in progress. Although opening something which has 'velvety pleasures', according to its cover, is enough to get the blood going. Or the kettle at least.

Remember, you can join me for the Tea Cosy Fiction Challenge and win one for your tea pot ....

I am not a fiction person, yet I LOVED "Novel about my wife". So well written and totally drew me in

Sounds like a great idea but I only seem to manage to fit in about one book a month, mostly in fifteen minute coffee breaks.
I keep borrowing too many books from the library and having to return them unread :(
(I did just finish "Half of a Yellow Sun" which I found quite stunning. This month I hope to read The Vintner's Luck. I guess I'm a bit behind - but a good book should stay a good book, even if it was published a few years ago, shouldn't it?)

artandmylife - yes novel about my wife is the sort of fiction that could draw in even a die hard non-fiction reader

and catherine, the vintner's luck will still be a joy even now to read - and then you can leap to angel's cut which follows the angel, xas, to hollywood....

I'm like Catherine at the moment - very optimistic in my reading intentions, but only have 20 mins before I nod off each night to read!

Would have - pre 2nd child - loved to have raced you Mary, reckon I'd have won too ;)
